Different European countries deal with refugee issue in different ways, and have different understandings and approaches. Throughout the last year, many events that have been triggered by the relationship that refugees develop in the Western alcohol culture. Namely, with alcoholic drinks banned in their homeland – binge drinking is apparently becoming an increasing problem among the migrants. Many types of violence have been found related to alcohol consumption. Partners that work on promotion of alcohol-free lifestyle, and at the same time highly respecting human rights and safe environments for young people to develop in, have the need to discuss and find common approaches to work with this topic with the young refugees that have different primary culture.

Youth exchange is a perfect match between funding and multiplying the knowledge for usage of Erasmus + among our partners, and at the same time offering space for them to address the relationships and approaches that the Western alcohol culture imposes on the young refugees. The main idea is to create a capacity building training course for partner organizations that are interested in working with Erasmus+ and the issue in question, as well as deepening the partnership between youth organizations from different regions of Europe in a highly diverse environment. The main objectives are in line with the priorities of the program, since the organizations will: firstly exchange experiences and knowledge on the migrant crisis, understanding it better from a human right and solidarity point of view, secondly understand how the new culture and situation makes them vulnerable to the alcohol consumption, and thirdly find better ways for our organizations to support the development of healthier young people in a more diverse society.
In addition, we will make sure to have experts that would bring external added value to the topic for the participants. More concretely, the strong focus of the workshops in working with young refugees, methods of integration and understanding as well as prevention methods from alcohol consumption.
